About The Author
Al Ramsawack: Our Flagship Author
The late Al Ramsawack (1932–2021) stands as Caribbean Publishing House’s flagship author because of his unparalleled contribution to the preservation and celebration of Trinidad and Tobago’s folklore and culture. As a folklorist, educator, broadcaster, artist, and storyteller, Ramsawack spent over five decades collecting and sharing the rich oral traditions of the Caribbean through more than 300 stories across newspaper columns, books, radio, and television. His writings brought to life beloved characters and mythic figures such as the Soucouyant, Papa Bois, La Diablesse, Douens, and many others, deeply embedding them into the literary imagination of the nation and the region.

About The Book
Folklore Stories of Trinidad and Tobago
Folklore Stories of Trinidad and Tobago is a compilation of the author’s published stories from 1971 to 2016; 182 pages, full colour with original illustrations by the author, Al Ramsawack . These stories explore the tales of supernatural occurrences and encounters with forest-dwelling folklore characters from this twin island state in the Caribbean. The author’s compelling style of narration evokes dramatic images of his story characters in a nostalgic return to Trinidad and Tobago’s past. The “Trini dialect” in these stories (with a glossary attached) is testimony to that. Some of the popular characters include, the Soucouyant, the La Diablesse, Papa Bois, and Mama d’leau.
